‘A little rebellion now and then is a good thing’

This artwork moves every few years, as do I. They’re the first things hung on my new office walls — always freshly painted with the color teal in honor of the first time I was fired.

I’ve lived that Jefferson quote since I was a teenager. Amazing I lasted 13 years in corporate America before launching my own communications firm.

As Creative Director at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, I thought my new office should be teal. My bosses didn’t — and fired me. My offices have been teal ever since.

We just moved again, as did these two Pat Juneau metal sculptures. I think they herald the value of publishing and agency work: inspiring people of different colors and creeds to offer an open hand in friendship and to talk —  perhaps about a little rebellion now and then.
